Sweet Potato
Sweet Potato Music Magazine
Sweet Potato was a monthly music magazine that started in Portland, Maine in 1975. A Boston, Massachusetts edition was added in 1978, and a Minneapolis, Minnesota edition debuted in August, 1979. The Minnesota publication went weekly on December 3, 1981 and took the name City Pages.
Sweet Potato’s coverage was extensive and wide-ranging, with stories on pop, jazz, classical and country music as well as rock bands The Clash, Ramones, The Police, and the Cars. It, like the Boston Phoenix, launched a number of key rock writers throughout the area and across the country. The magazine folded in the late 1980’s.
