On April 8, 2016, Cheap Trick was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. After their acceptance speeches, the band played four songs, and Tom Petersson played his Gretsch White Falcon 12-string bass on all of them.

This DVD also includes the 2017 induction ceremony, with Pearl Jam being honored. While bassist Jeff Ament did not play a 12-string bass during that ceremony, it’s great that two bands with 12-string bassists were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in back to back years.

The 2016 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony book includes two photos of 12-string basses. The Hamer double-cutaway B12A is pictured in a historical photo from about 1979, and a Chandler Royale 12 pictured from about 2002.

The 2016 Induction Ceremony CD released by the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame Foundation includes sample tracks from each of the bands that was inducted. It does not include the performances of these bands at the ceremony.

One of the Cheap Trick tracks includes a 12-string bass, “Surrender” from the At Budokan live album.

Cheap Trick Register Star

The Cheap Trick Register Star, published on April 14, 2016 in Rockford, Illinois, home of Cheap Trick.

The page of the Cheap Trick Register Star devoted to Tom Petersson and his 12-string basses.

To honor their hometown heroes, the Rockford Register Star newspaper in Rockford, Illinois published a 24-page special edition titled Cheap Trick Register Star on April 14, 2016. It includes a full page devoted to each band member, photos from throughout the band’s history, a discography, excerpts from articles published about the band over the past four decades, and even a page devoted to the musical interests and accomplishments of the band member’s children. Each page is bordered by the band’s trademark black and white checkerboard pattern.

Several photos of Tom Petersson’s 12-string basses are included such as his current favorite, the Gretsch White Falcon 12. Some of Tom’s Hamer, Chandler, and Waterstone 12’s are also pictured.
