This article includes a photo of Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen buried in guitars, including the Hamer 10-string and 12-string basses. He discusses his guitar collection with the interviewer.

Rick Nielsen surrounded by his guitars, including both the Hamer 10-string and Hamer Quad 12-string basses.

When Tom Petersson is asked about his guitars he stated, “I have a ten and one twelve-string bass guitar, which were made especially for me by Hamer. There are three E-, A-, D- and G strings on that twelve-string. In addition to the regular bass strings, I had two strings added that sound one octave higher. That gives a wonderful effect, it seems as if more guitarists are playing the same part. Some try to get this effect by working with an octaver, but this sounds much better. It complements incredibly well and we need that, because usually only Rick and I play. Hamer first declared me crazy and they didn't want to build the instrument, then I said, ‘Okay, first build a ten-string, on this guitar the E and A are double and the D and G consist of three strings.’ When that wasn't too bad, they still built a twelve-string bass guitar for me. They were afraid that the strings would not fit on the neck, but afterwards they admitted that I was right. I also have some guitars, but they are not that special.”

A rare photo of Petersson with both the 10-string and 12-string basses is included.

A two-page photo spread of Cheap Trick includes a picture of drummer Bun E. Carlos holding the Hamer Quad 12-string bass. Most other photos are of the band eating dinner or walking around.

A quote from the article: “The music of Cheap Trick is exceptionally heavy live; maybe even heavier than on the record. This is mainly due to the sound of Petersson's ten-string (!) bass guitar, on which he plays a kind of blow, alternated with loops here and there. The heavy rock sound of the band was almost perfect. Especially the somewhat longer entry-level themes could not have sounded better.”
