This article is a high-level overview of the 12-string bass from a novice’s point of view and should probably have been presented as an interview with Jol Dantzig of Hamer Guitars rather than a guide to the instrument. A sidebar section includes a few comments from King’s X bassist Doug Pinnick.

Regarding the creation of the first Hamer 12-string bass, Jol Dantzig recounts, “Initially Tom (Petersson) wanted to know if we could do something to the Hagstrom 8-string bass to make it more robust, stay in tune and sound better. He liked the concept but he didn’t like the execution and it grew from that.”
